SLEWING RINGS

Where standard bearings can no longer cope with heavy loads coupled with rotary motion, slewing rings are what the UK industrial sector opts for. Crane. Excavators. Wind turbines. Offshore platforms. In all these areas, the failure of any bearing component spells financial disaster and may pose risks to people's lives. This is why the country's engineers go for slewing rings whenever a solution is needed that cannot be found elsewhere.

Simultaneous bearing of axial, radial, and moment loads - while a conventional bearing set up necessitates several parts, elaborate installation procedures, and regular maintenance, our slewing rings provide the same functionality using just one part and doing so with outstanding reliability. Whether you need small 418mm diameter slewing rings suitable for use in packaging machinery or large-scale 1.2-metre rings for mounting wind turbines' nacelles, our UK-based company has what you seek. Geared, non-geared, internal or external gears - irrespective of your needs concerning power transmission, we offer a solution that easily integrates into your current system. There is no need for special machining operations, complicated modifications or any other unnecessary actions. Simply mount and continue with your routine work.

Ready for immediate delivery. Unlike the competition, which often mentions 12-16 weeks delivery periods supplied by foreign producers, we keep our slewing rings in stock and able to send them out immediately. Since a failure of a slewing ring on-site on an excavator or a crane cannot be left unfixed for such a long time. From £729 to £2,500+ depending on dimensions and specification of products - competitive pricing based on the real ability to supply goods.

What is a Slewing Ring?

A slewing ring is a solution that enables rotational motion between components, using two concentric rings as the main structure. These slewing bearings are made up of an inner and an outer ring, one of which will generally incorporate a gear whilst both elements include attachment holes. This enables optimised power transmission with a simple and fast connection between adjacent components.

Where to Use Slewing Rings

They are designed to transmit axial, radial, and tilting moment loads in one assembly, greatly reducing space, weight and the high costs of investing in other rotational designs. The bearing raceways, in combination with the rolling elements and cages or spacers, can accommodate loads acting individually or in combination, as well as in any direction.

Slewing rings can have multiple different names. They might also be known as turntable bearings and slewing bearings, terms which can be used interchangeably to refer to the same products. These bearings can be made from many different materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome steel, brass, anodised aluminium and plastic. Slewing rings that use plastic can be beneficial because they are electrically insulated, so additional grounding is not needed. When slewing rings use a ball bearing design, additional consideration needs to be given to insulation and an extra polymer layer may be needed.

How Are Slewing Rings Sized and Used?

They come in various sizes to accommodate different applications, though they tend to be used with heavy loads – the slewing bearings themselves might range from small components up to a few metres in size. They can be used in packaging, robotics, wind power, drilling, mining and lifting. To find the bearing size that you need use our Bearing Finder by adding your own measurements.

Slewing rings vary considerably depending on size and the bolt-hole pattern. Their construction consists of the following components:

An internal or external geared option Ball or crossed roller bearing design Single or double rows Lubrication holes

While these components should all be of high quality, their success depends largely on how the system is driven. Different options for driving include external gears or worm gears, drive plate coupling, or external belts.

What are the Different Types of Slewing Rings

There are a number of common types of slewing ring bearings, which are available to purchase from our large online range:

SINGLE ROW

With a row of steel balls as the body, the balls are separated by an isolation block. The inner and outer slewing rings are critical and the steel balls are loaded by plugging holes, meaning the steel ball is in contact with the rolling path at four points bearing axial force, radial force and tipping movement all at the same time.

DOUBLE ROW

This is much like the single-row contact ball slewing ring bearing but with two rows of steel balls as the rolling body. All of the balls are the same size, whilst the inner and outer rings are integral once more.

TRIPLE ROW

Composed of three rings, the upper and lower rows are distributed horizontally to endure the axial force and tipping moment (both ways). The radial force is therefore tolerated by the third row of vertically arranged rollers.

CROSS ROLLER

With this design, the rolling bodies are cylindrical rollers and the axes of adjacent rollers are arranged in a 90° cross arrangement. Half of the rollers bear the downward axial force, and half tolerate the upward axial force.

DOUBLE EXCLUSION BALL

With upper and lower double rows of steel balls, the double exclusion ball bearing features inner and outer rings, isolation blocks and lubricating devices.

At Bearing Revolution, we have a wide range of slewing rings in stock and ready for dispatch. We do not list all products online, so please call us if you cannot find what you're looking for as we are likely to have it in stock. Our range includes:

Slewing rings carry large axial, radial, and moment loads within a compact dimension envelope. They are widely used in industrial machines, providing an elegant solution for load carrying, stability, and power transmission. We also offer equivalents to other renowned brands such as Torriani Gianni, La Leonessa, BRB Technologies, and more.

If you need assistance in identifying the specific slewing ring you require, please contact Bearing Revolution, and our team will be happy to guide you
